Courses offered through ATI Workforce Solutions are employer sponsored for the training of employees. As such, these courses do not fall within the scope of the institution’s accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and they are exempt from certification by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).

Virginia Motor Vehicle Safety Inspector Written Test Preparation (16 Hours)
  • Prepare to take the written and practical examinations for Class A Unlimited Safety Inspector, Class B Trailer, and Class C Motorcycle licenses.
  • Instructor-led review of the Official Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Manual.
Virginia Motor Vehicle Safety Inspector Practicum Test Preparation (4 Hours)
  • Perform practice inspections on a variety of vehicles with safety issues.
Vehicle Electrical Systems I: Fundamentals (8 Hours)
  • Fundamentals of electrical system design and applications, Ohm’s Law calculations, circuit design, and components.
  • Theory of operation and testing of battery, starting, and charging systems.
Vehicle Electrical Systems II: Troubleshooting and Repair (8 Hours)
  • Electrical component operation and diagnosis, including wiring schematic reading and circuit diagnosis.
  • Voltage drop testing, multimeter and oscilloscope usage, sensor testing, and repair procedures.
  • Identification and testing of input and output circuits.
Vehicle Electrical Systems III: Advanced Diagnostics (8 Hours)
  • Advanced diagnostic techniques in modern, computer-controlled vehicle electrical systems.
  • Logic theory, advanced wiring schematic reading, electrical testing, and scanner usage.
  • Body support system testing, oscilloscope usage, and testing of high-voltage hybrid electrical systems.
Principles of Steering and Alignment (8 Hours)
  • This course focuses on understanding alignment angles, tire wear patterns associated with incorrect alignment, and component identification and function on modern automotive and light truck applications.
  • Students will learn the necessary steps to safely and efficiently perform a proper four-wheel alignment using Hunter Hawkeye equipment and software on front- and rear-wheel-drive vehicles.
ABS Brake Systems Diagnostic and Repair (8 Hours)
  • Students will learn maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of modern brake and traction control systems.
  • Theory, component identification, and application of ABS systems.
  • Understanding circuits and system operation.
Vehicle Climate Control Systems Diagnostic and Repair (8 Hours)
  • Overview of climate control systems, including vehicle cooling systems.
  • Component identification, fault diagnosis, and repair of AC systems.
  • System charging, pressure testing, and recovery procedures will be covered.
  • EPA 609 test included in training.

Heavy Vehicle and Fleet Trades

Course Course Description
Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Endorsement Training for Commercial Drivers (4.5 Hours)
  • DMV- and FMCSA-required instruction on basic HAZMAT requirements.
  • After successful course completion, students will be entered into the Training Provider Registry, making them eligible for the DMV Hazardous Materials Endorsement test.

Principles of Fluid Power (8 Hours)
  • Designed for entry- to mid-level technicians in the construction equipment, heavy vehicle, and industrial service fields.
  • Topics include fluid power theory and calculations, understanding pressure and flow, and system component identification.
  • Preventive maintenance and diagnostics are introduced.
Hydraulic Systems Troubleshooting and Repair (8 Hours)
  • Designed for heavy vehicle shop and field technicians.
  • Builds on Principles of Fluid Power and covers advanced system components, cylinders, pumps, and control valves.
  • Covers circuit diagram interpretation, intermediate-level diagnostics, and repair procedures.
Basic Welding for Service Technicians (15 Hours)
  • Designed to improve the skills of automotive, truck, and equipment technicians working in fleet repair facilities, dealerships, and independent shops.
  • Learn the setup and operation of wire-feed welding machines, including techniques and safety precautions.
  • Weld coupons made from various materials.
AWS Weld Testing and Certification (8 Hours)
  • Designed for welders seeking certification in various welding processes.
  • Prepares students for AWS standards related to welding process, material, and position certification tests.
  • Participants will be instructed in the safe operation of the welding equipment required for their test. Materials and certification are included in the course fee.
Diesel Emission Controls (20 Hours)
  • Learn the operation and diagnostics of diesel emission control systems from 2004 and newer.
  • Covers EPA regulations, diesel pollutants and related chemical reactions, and system operation.
  • Diagnose and repair Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.
Principles of Effective Preventive Maintenance (8 Hours)
  • Provides an overview of a well-implemented preventive maintenance program, including the differences between A, B, C, D, and L inspections and the steps required to perform an effective inspection.
  • Students will learn federal inspection regulations, DOT inspections, out-of-service criteria, and DOT recordkeeping requirements.
Effective and Compliant Pre-Trip Inspections (8 Hours)
  • Students will learn how to identify maintenance issues before they lead to costly repairs or downtime, understand how proper inspections improve safety, and review DOT recordkeeping requirements and penalties.
  • Topics also include liability concerns and vehicle out-of-service criteria.

Industrial and Construction Trades

Course Course Description
EPA 608 Technician Certification (8 Hours)
  • Required by Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act for anyone who maintains, services, repairs, or disposes of appliances containing regulated refrigerants.
  • Covers mandatory training and required knowledge related to ozone-depleting refrigerants and EPA regulations.
  • The EPA 608 Certification Exam is included in the cost of training.
