Hampton Roads’ Nexgen HVAC Services Hires ATI Graduates

For more than a decade, David Stockburger worked in and around the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. A born troubleshooter, working as a technician came naturally and he quickly excelled. Looking for his next challenge, David decided it was time to become his own boss and so he started his own company. In November 2015, Nexgen HVAC Services was born.

David’s family helped out right from the start. His father, Bill Stockburger, is his operations manager, and mother Donna is the company accounts manager. Although David has been in business less than a year, he’s already growing at an impressive rate, having hired four additional technicians – each from Advanced Technology Institute (ATI).

David connected with ATI through his father-in-law who has been in HVAC for 30 years, worked with ATI, and highly recommended its graduates. “ATI students are well rounded when they graduate and have a solid foundational base of industry knowledge,” says David. “And that base is well suited for us to build on. We build on their great knowledge and experience when they come on board with us.”

At ATI, students gain practical knowledge and experience in both classroom and shop settings with modern testing equipment and tools used in the HVAC industry. Moreover, they are trained by seasoned HVAC technicians who bring with them years of experience and a variety of industry-related certifications.

Through ATI’s Service Management Program, graduates can also gain additional skills such as:

  • Customer service
  • Business management
  • Inventory management
  • Communication skills
  • Understanding business financial reports
  • Employee relations

HVAC is an exciting career and people who work in this profession are in demand. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected to grow 14 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. If you’d like to chart an exciting career like David’s, visit ATI’s HVAC program page on its website and request more information.

After more than 10 years of working in HVAC, David is certainly glad he choose this career path. Nexgen already has nine employees and David hopes to grow to 30 techs in the coming years. He says, “My vision for Nexgen is to be one of the premier commercial service companies in Hampton Roads. We are staying at the forefront of HVAC technology, treating our clients fairly, and taking great pride in our workmanship. I am looking forward to bringing on future techs from ATI to become part of the team and grow with us.”
